Site Director's Bio
Hello! My name is Bhavya Kothari. I have a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor’s in Human Development from India. I started my career as a Preschool Curriculum Designer in India. Followed by designing individualised curriculum for a school in Redwood City. I have also taught STEM to preschoolers and elementary school kids.
My journey at Tulip began back in 2016 as an after school teacher. I am so proud that Tulip provides a great environment for children where we’re focused on lots of educational fun.
After working in multiple educational settings in India and California for more than 12 years I believe that children learn best when the learning environment is designed to meet the developmental needs of each unique child and one that encourages exploration, creativity, and independence.
In my personal time, I enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with my family and friends.
Hello all! My name is Ashley Carrillo and I am currently 21, I have two younger brothers and two cats. I am working on obtaining my degree in Early Childhood Education and have been attending Foothill Community College since 2017.
I love working with children of all ages and have been volunteering at several different places over the years. I have traveled to different states/countries, including Texas, Alaska, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and more to work with all kinds of amazing children and adults alike. In high school, I would volunteer at my local elementary school for hours helping the children to practice their reading and writing skills. Last year I was working at a preschool but more specifically with toddlers. This taught me to have a lot of patience and also taught me that the first years of childhood are some of the most important years for development in cognitive, motor, and social skills. I enjoy working with small children as they have such creative and interesting minds.
In my free time I like to watch movies/shows, do arts and crafts, hang out with my family, and relax with my chubby cat.
My name is Minal Bendre. I have studied Child Development from De Anza College. I have been teaching for the past nine years. I started my career as a preschool teacher. I have taught 3-4 years children and I gradually moved to teaching after school children. I have taught kindergarten children before and have been teaching 1-2 grade class. I have been teaching at Tulip After School from last 4 years.
I love doing art with the children because I believe art improves your cognitive skills, stay focused and relaxes the brain. I enjoy working at Tulip and be part of Tulip family. I believe in nurturing young and creative minds learning through fun, educational, and engaging activities such as arts and crafts, reading, and solving puzzles to stimulate the brain.
In my personal time, I enjoy reading , spending time with my family and travelling to different countries.
Hi! My name is Teresa Gurries. I was born in San Jose, California and grew up in Campbell, California. I attended local schools. I completed elementary school at Bohnett (now apartments)- Cambrian School District and graduated from Ida Price Junior High (now called Ida Price Middle School). I took the school bus to Del Mar High School and graduated in 1979. I married my husband 34.5 years ago and we are looking forward to celebrating our 35th anniversary next year. I have two children- a girl (26 yrs. old) and a boy (24 yrs. old). In my spare time I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, baking, and spending time with my family. I have two 8 year old golden retrievers. I love dogs!!! I wish I could have a kennel full of dogs.
I earned my BA in Liberal Studies at San Jose State University followed by completing a multiple subject credential program. I was in the first group required to take the CBEST.
I started my teaching career at St. Joseph Elementary School teaching 6th grade homeroom for four years. The last two years, I also taught 8th grade science. I worked at St. John Vianney from 1990-1999. I taught one year of 7th grade homeroom- 7th/8th science, 7th language arts and religion. Then, the following eight years, I taught 8th grade homeroom & religion and 7th/8th science. After I adopted my two children from Belarus, I decided that teaching 8th grade homeroom took too much time away from my family. In 1999-2011, I taught 6th-8th grade science at St. Frances Cabrini. I taught K-5th science my last year of full time teaching.
I have been a part of the Tulip family since 2013. I couldn’t be happier working for such a great organization. I especially love interacting with the children. They are precious.
